US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to end the Russia-Ukraine war, Anadolu news agency reported on Wednesday.
After speaking by phone with the Russian president, the US Republican president said he and Putin agreed to stop the loss of life in the war in Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he had a "long and very productive" conversation with Vladimir Putin, according to reports.
"We discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, energy, artificial intelligence, the power of the dollar and a variety of other issues," Trump said on his social media platform Truth. They each spoke about the strengths of their countries and the 'great advantage' that they would one day have working together.
"We want to stop the millions of deaths that are happening in the Russia-Ukraine war," he said. "President Putin used a very powerful campaign slogan of mine, 'common sense.' We both believe in it very strongly."
"We have agreed to work very closely together, including by visiting each other's countries," he added. "We have agreed to allow our respective teams to begin discussions immediately, and we will begin by calling President Zelensky of Ukraine and briefing him on the conversation, which I will do now."
Thousands of civilians have been killed in the Eastern European country since the Russian military began an all-out offensive in Ukraine in February 2022.
