Remittances sent by Bangladeshis abroad to Bangladesh in February reached about 320 billion taka, which is a record amount of remittance flow in February in the history of Bangladesh. According to Bangladesh Bank sources, 2.528 billion US dollars (about 310.94 billion taka) were sent to the country through legal channels in February. This is calculated at 123 taka per dollar.
This remittance flow has increased by 25 percent compared to February last year. Last year, remittances came in at $2.02 billion, which is about $500 million more this time. As a result, a strong foundation has been laid in the Bangladesh economy and foreign exchange reserves have increased.
According to the latest report of Bangladesh Bank, the total remittance inflow in the first eight months of the current fiscal year (July-February) was 18.49 billion US dollars, which is 23.80 percent more than the previous fiscal year. In the same period of the previous year, remittances inflow were 14.935 billion US dollars.
Bangladeshi diaspora worldwide continues to contribute to their domestic economies, and their remittances in February continue to play a significant role in the country's foreign exchange reserves.
According to the remittance flow statistics, the amount of remittance flow in different months from July to February of the current fiscal year was:
- July: $1.91 billion 3.77 million
- August: $222.13 million 20 thousand
- September: $2.4 billion 4.1 million
- October: $2.395 billion
- November: $2.2 billion
- December: $2.64 billion
- January: $219 million
- February: $2.528 billion
Thus, the flow of remittances is acting as an important economic support force for the country in the first 8 months of the current fiscal year.
