The political party of those who led the July mass uprising has launched its debut, vowing to build a new Bangladesh. The youth-led party made its official debut on Friday with a huge gathering at Manik Mia Avenue in front of the National Parliament Building. It is led by students and youth who organized the July Uprising. Nahid Islam has been appointed as the convener of the party and Akhtar Hossain has been appointed as the member secretary.
Nahid Islam said, "We will build a strong defense system to protect national interests in the Second Republic and preserve the democratic character by rebuilding collapsed political, social, economic and cultural institutions."
Representatives of various political parties including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami were present at the launch of this new political party. The ceremony began with readings from the holy scriptures, the playing of the national anthem, and a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs of the July Uprising.
Referring to the need for a new political system, Nahid Islam said, "During the July Uprising, the voices of the students and the masses were heard - 'Who are you? Who am I? Alternative! Alternative!' Today, the NCP was born from that place of alternative."
The National Citizens Party has pledged to establish a democratic state free from communalism and discrimination and has expressed its determination to write a new chapter in the country's politics.
