Recently, there was vandalism and arson at Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's house at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka over the statement of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India. The Indian government did not take kindly to the statement issued by her in response, strongly condemning the incident.
Dhaka says that India's statement on Bangladesh's internal affairs is 'unexpected' and 'undesirable' in light of India's meddling in Bangladesh's internal affairs.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Rafiqul Alam told reporters on Sunday (February 9).
Rafiqul Alam said that the former Prime Minister has made political statements at various times while in India, which are not being well received by the people of Bangladesh. The interim government has already clarified its position on the situation that arose at No. 32, Dhanmondi, based on his statement on February 5. A comment by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in this regard came to the notice of the interim government on February 6.
The spokesperson said, "This statement by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on the internal affairs of Bangladesh is unexpected and undesirable. We have seen various adverse situations in the neighboring country. But Bangladesh does not officially make any statement on the internal affairs of any country. Bangladesh also expresses similar expectations from others."
Incidentally, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka and took refuge in Delhi in the context of August 5. Recently, Hasina, who is in the country, has been speaking on various issues including Bangladesh using various platforms including social media. Last Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned India's acting High Commissioner in Dhaka, Pawan Badhe, and submitted a protest letter over Hasina's various statements.
On the other hand, a day after summoning the Indian acting high commissioner, Delhi summoned the Bangladesh acting high commissioner and said that Hasina's statement was personal. The Indian government is not responsible for it.
