US President Donald Trump has said he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon.
On Sunday (February 17) local time, reporters asked Trump if there would be a meeting between the two leaders in Saudi Arabia. In response, Trump said, "The date has not been set. But the meeting will be held soon."
Trump said his team was having long and difficult talks with Russian officials. "I think Putin wants to stop the war," Trump said. "Ukrainian President Zelensky wants to stop the war."
Trump and Putin had a lengthy phone call last Wednesday, during which they agreed to immediately begin ceasefire talks.
Ukrainian President Zelensky said that he would not accept any decision made without Ukraine.
Rubio spoke by phone with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Saturday. Rubio said, "A phone call does not make peace."
In an interview with NBC yesterday, Zelensky said that Putin lies all the time. He cannot be trusted as a negotiating partner.
