Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently met with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
Meeting with Keir Starmer:
On Thursday, Starmer and Trump met to discuss the Ukraine crisis and trade relations. Starmer sought security guarantees for Ukraine, but Trump did not directly provide them, insisting on an economic partnership. During the meeting, Trump agreed to tariff exemptions for the UK and reached an agreement on the Chagos Islands issue. Trump also accepted an invitation to make a state visit to the UK in the future.
Meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky:
On Friday, Zelensky and Trump met to discuss Ukraine's security and economic reconstruction. Zelensky wanted US security guarantees to protect against future Russian aggression, but Trump suggested Europe take on this responsibility. The meeting also saw the signing of an economic agreement that would allocate $501.3 trillion of Ukraine's natural resource revenues to an investment fund. The fund would help rebuild Ukraine and encourage US investment.
It is worth noting that before Zelensky's visit, Trump was considering canceling the meeting, but the meeting took place with the intervention of French President Emmanuel Macron.
These meetings shed light on the role of the international community in resolving the Ukraine crisis and the mutual relations between different countries.
