Ujirpur Barisal Correspondent:
An allegation has been received that several people looted fish worth lakhs of taka from a water body in Gazirpar village of Barakotha union in Ujirpur upazila of Barisal district, violating the High Court ban, and cut down trees on government roads to build fish enclosures. Although a complaint was filed at the police station regarding this incident, the police administration could not take any action against the opponents.
According to local and police sources, on the night of February 7, Mosharraf Khan, Hannan Khan and Mannan Khan, along with their gang, occupied 34 percent of the land of the same village overnight and built a fish enclosure despite the High Court's ban. The accused Mosharraf, Mannan, said that during the previous Awami League era, they forcibly built a road and it is true that they and Kader Bepari planted trees here, but this property is my grandfather's property, so we got the opportunity and so we occupied our land. The victim of occupation, Kader Bepari, said that in 1969, we sub-contracted 28 percent of the land from the defendants' ancestor Ujjat Khan through document number 5786/69 and in 1982, by purchasing 6 percent of the land from another donor, Aziz Khan, we have been occupying a total of 34 percent of the land for a long time. Suddenly, since August 5, they have been threatening us with land grabs one after another, calling us synonymous with the Awami League. In continuation of that, on the late night of February 7, a group of armed terrorists planted a salvo machine on our land, looted fish worth several lakhs of taka, and cut down trees on the government road to build a fish enclosure.

In this regard, Md. Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Uzirpur Model Police Station, said, "We received the complaint and immediately sent a force including officers to stop the work. And legal action will be taken as per the advice of the court."
