Miscreants tied up an elderly woman named Lahmi Rani Bhakta (75) and killed her by tying her hands and feet in Nazirpur, Pirojpur. The incident took place in Moukhali village of Sheikhmatia union of the upazila. The deceased Lahmi Rani is the wife of the deceased Sumanta Kumar Bhakta of the village and the mother of Tapas Kumar Bhakta, a lawyer of the Pirojpur District Judge Court.
According to local sources, a local man named Nur Islam Sheikh went to the house on Friday (February 7) morning to give him date juice. When he found no one at home, he called Krishna Mandal of the Paswarvati house. Krishna Mandal entered the house and found him dead with his hands and feet tied.
The deceased's son, lawyer Tapas Kumar Bhakta, said that he received the news of his mother's murder on Friday (February 7) morning. Upon receiving the news, he came home that morning and found his mother's body tied with her hands and feet on the bed in the living room. He said that there has been a long-standing dispute with a local group over land. He believes that his mother may have been killed as a result of this.
Nazirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mahmud Al Farid Bhuiyan said that the old woman was killed by cutting a hole in the back of the house. Investigations are underway to arrest those involved.
