Police have arrested mosque imam Abdul Ahad on charges of raping a 4-year-old child in Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur.
It is learned that the incident took place on the veranda of a mosque in Ramchandrapur village of Krishnapur union of Sadarpur upazila on Thursday (January 30) afternoon.
The child's family said that Imam Abdul Ahad lured the child to the mosque's balcony with the promise of feeding him nuts and raped him there. Hearing the child's screams, her mother came to rescue her.
Locals said that Abdul Ahad (42), son of the late Sharafat Ali of Majhiali village in Banihala union of Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh, has been leading the mosque in the area for a long time.
Sadarpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Motaleb Hossain said the child was rescued and admitted to the One Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Faridpur Medical College Hospital. The accused imam fled after raping her, but the absconding imam was arrested from Gazaria area of Kotwali Police Station in Faridpur Sadar on Thursday midnight. He will be handed over to the court soon after the legal process is completed.
