Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali has said that law enforcement agencies are ready to deal with any sabotage, including hartals. If anyone, including the banned organization Chhatra League, tries to sabotage through various programs, including hartals, they will be severely suppressed.
He made these remarks to reporters after inspecting the security arrangements at the Ekushey Book Fair on Friday (January 31).
The DMP Commissioner said that outside the DMP, RAB and intelligence agencies will be engaged in security. This time, the road from TSC to Doel Chattar will be closed all day. Security will also be strengthened in the area around Dhaka University. No heavy vehicles will ply in the DU area for a month during the fair.
In response to a question, he said that the Bangla Academy has been asked to ensure that no provocative books are displayed at the book fair.
The commissioner has urged everyone to refrain from protesting on the roads during this time.
