A press conference was held at the temporary office of the Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami in Joyenpur on Monday, February 17 at 11 am to protest the inclusion of the names of innocent Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists in the murder case of banned Chhatra League leader Al-Mamun in Sadullapur, Gaibandha.
At the time, under the chairmanship of Sadullapur Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Md. Ershadul Haque Emon, Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Md. Sirajul Islam said in his written statement, "We strongly condemn and protest the murder of Al-Mamun, the leader of the banned organization Chhatra League, in the Dhaperhat Jamdani More area of Dhaperhat Union of Sadullapur Upazila, Gaibandha on February 13th. A case was filed with Sadullapur Police Station on February 14th regarding this murder."
It is worth noting that although they were not involved in the murder, the names of 16 leaders and activists, including Golam Rabbani Ratan, Secretary of the Youth Department of Sadullapur Upazila branch of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Sujan Mia, Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami of Dhaperhat Union branch, Md. Rostam, President of Sramik Kalyan, activists Ashraful, Rabbi Mia, Babu Mia, Md. Piyas, Md. Limon, Md. Chayen, Md. Parvez, Md. Rezwan, Morayhan, Md. Ferdaus, Md. Wahab Ali and Md. Rashed, were included in the list to tarnish the party's image.
Several CCTV footages of this murder have already gone viral on social media, where it is mentioned that the criminals are seen carrying sticks with their faces covered. Even then, as part of the conspiracy, only the names of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists have been printed in various posts, which is a vile intention to tarnish the image of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Also, although there are accused of other parties, posters have not been printed in their names. Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists have been implicated out of revenge. They should be quickly released from the charges of this incident and the real accused should be arrested.
