The BNP Standing Committee held an emergency meeting on the ongoing situation in the country. The meeting, chaired by the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman, began at 11:30 am on Friday and ended at 1 pm. All participants in the meeting sat at the Gulshan office and Tarique Rahman joined virtually from London.
Party sources said that Tarique Rahman held an emergency meeting with the party's policymakers at 5:30 am London time to determine the party's course of action in the wake of the demolition of houses, establishments and nameplates of Awami League leaders in various parts of the country, including Dhaka, on Wednesday and Thursday. Tarique Rahman usually meets with members of the standing committee every Monday at 12:30 pm London time (6:30 pm Bangladesh time).
According to the meeting sources, everyone will have to be patient in the current situation in the country. The party will meet soon to discuss the current situation.
BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar, Mirza Abbas (online), Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir (online), Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury (online), Salauddin Ahmed, Begum Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku (online), Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain (online) participated in the meeting.
Regarding the meeting, BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said that the meeting was chaired by the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman and was attended by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and members of the standing committee.
Party standing committee member Selima Rahman said, "We discussed the current situation in the country. We announced the party's position on the current situation on Thursday night. Further decisions will be made."
