Gaibandha Correspondent: About 200 people have fallen ill after attending a gathering at Mozafar's house in Uttar Rifaitpur Charpara village of Badiakhali Union in Gaibandha Sadar Upazila. They are being treated at Gaibandha General Hospital and various hospitals.
According to the sources of the patients admitted to the hospital, a Majlis meal was organized in the courtyard of Mozafar's house in Rifaitpur village of Baliakhali union in Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon. After eating, most of the people started having stomach pain and diarrhea that afternoon. After that, 124 people were admitted to General Sadar Hospital and 71 to Udakhali Health Complex in the last two days. Of the sick, 124 people were admitted to Gaibandha General Hospital on February 17. Of these, 51 people have been discharged, while the rest are still undergoing treatment in the hospital.
On the other hand, according to sources at Udakhali Health Complex, 61 patients are admitted there. Many are also receiving treatment at home and in private hospitals. Doctors on duty said that most of those admitted to the hospital are women and children.
On Tuesday, a visit to the diarrhea ward of Gaibandha District Hospital revealed that 52 patients were receiving treatment for food poisoning. As of the time of writing this report, 35 new patients were admitted to the hospital today. Among them, 9 are from the same family.
Mujibur Rahman, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said, "I had an invitation at a house next door and had lunch with my family. Then, six members of my family developed diarrhea day and night, and I was admitted to the hospital."
In this regard, Md. Asif Rahman, Resident Medical Officer of Gaibandha District Hospital, said that more than a hundred patients suffering from food poisoning have been admitted to the hospital.
