New Delhi, 12 February 2025:
A new study has revealed alarming data on the rise in anti-minority sentiment and communal violence in India. The study says that there has been a recent increase in incidents of atrocities, persecution and discrimination against minority Muslims, Christians, Dalits and other communities in the country.
The study found that physical and psychological violence against minorities has increased significantly in the last five years. In particular, there has been a huge increase in multiple attacks, killings and social harassment against the Muslim community.
"In recent years, religious differences, politically motivated communal tensions, and social media propaganda have exacerbated violence against minorities," the researchers said.
In addition, discrimination and lack of opportunities against minorities have also become evident in various states of the country. Experts have warned that such a situation poses a major threat to the country's social harmony and religious tolerance.
Indian human rights organizations and international observers have expressed concern over this and demanded that the government take appropriate action.
There are calls for urgent steps to restore religious tolerance in Indian society.
