Terrorists attacked Noakhali correspondent Mohammad Taslim Hossain of the daily Lakhokanth in Maijdi, a district town of Noakhali, after he failed to pay the demanded ransom.
Journalist Taslim Hossain, who was injured in the incident at 2 pm on Saturday (March 1), filed a case against the extortionists and robbers at Sudharam Model Police Station.
Earlier, the attack took place at around 10 am on Friday (February 28) at the Burlington Mosque intersection in Ward 5 of Noakhali Municipality. After the attack, the terrorists held the seriously injured journalist captive for several hours.
The injured journalist, Taslim Hossain, is a resident of Hatia upazila of the district. He has been living with his family in a rented house in Harinarayanpur area of Ward No. 5 of Noakhali Municipality for the past 6 years.
Journalist Taslim Hossain, who was attacked, alleged that on Friday morning, around 9:30 am, while leaving home and going to Noakhali Municipal Market, local laundryman Anis and his associates arrested me at Burlington intersection. At one point, when he demanded a ransom of 10,000 taka, I refused to pay, so they suddenly attacked me. At that time, my left hand was broken and my left eye was injured and I was seriously injured.
Later, the local people rescued me from their hands and admitted me to the Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital. Currently, I am undergoing treatment in bed number 11 of ward number 6 in the hospital. In this incident, I am praying to the local administration to arrest the terrorists and get justice.
The accused could not be reached on their mobile phones to inquire about the allegations.
Sudharam Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamrul Islam said that journalist Taslim Hossain filed a written complaint about the terrorist attack on Saturday afternoon. Legal action will be taken against the accused after an investigation into the matter.
