Due to the intensity of the fog, nothing can be seen even at a short distance. For several days, the surrounding area has suddenly been covered in thick fog at night. The intensity of the fog is also increasing as the night progresses. Dew can be seen falling like raindrops.
Such a scene was captured on Saturday night on the Ghoraghat Highway and its surrounding areas in Dinajpur district of the northern region.
Meanwhile, long-distance vehicles are moving slowly on the highway due to dense fog. Several vehicles can also be seen standing in rows on the side of the road. When talking to some bus and truck drivers who left Dhaka, they said that the risk of accidents has increased on this busiest road due to dense fog. Fog lights are also not working. Many times they are not able to see the road ahead. It takes 5 to 6 hours to cross a two-hour road. Apart from this, one has to be more careful while crossing the bends and link roads of the highway.
Khorshed, a bus driver of Gobindaganj Special Service, said that due to the dense fog, buses have to drive at a speed of 25 to 30 kilometers. Most of the time, cars have to be driven by looking at the white marks on the road. Sometimes, even the broken down cars on the road a little distance away are not visible. This has made the road even more risky.
Another truck driver, Habibur, said, "Due to the dense fog, several trucks are having to drive in a row. The trucks in front of them are at greater risk. The fog is getting thicker as the night progresses. So, we are stopping the trucks at a safe distance from the road and waiting for morning."
Ghoraghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque said, "Police are on the road. Many bus and truck drivers are being warned. In this situation, all vehicles are advised to use fog lights and drive at a controlled speed. In addition, each vehicle is asked to maintain a safe distance. Drivers should remember that life is more valuable than time."
