Sylhet Bureau:-
An attack on a sleeping family, vandalism of a house, and looting of cash and household furniture took place in Kendri village of Jaintapur Union, Jaintapur Upazila, Sylhet. Four people were injured in the attack. The injured are: Zakia Begum (30), wife of Abdullah Mia of Kendri village, Maryam Begum (30), wife of Nunu Mia, Ali Hossain (13), son of Nunu Mia, and Ajirun Nesa (35), wife of the deceased Ansar Mia.
The incident took place at around 2:00 am on Friday (February 21). Amirun Nesa filed a complaint with Jaintapur Model Police Station as the plaintiff in the incident. Jaintapur Police Station has arrested the main accused in the case, Md. Abdul Matin (45).
According to the case, local pharmacy businessman and land grabber Abdul Matin and his gang carried out the attack. It is known that there has been a long-standing dispute between the two sides of the same family over land-related issues. This family was attacked twice before. On Friday, this family was also attacked by members of the land grabber gang, Md. Abdul Matin (45), son of the deceased Siddiqur Rahman of Kendri village, Abdul Matin's son Raihan Ahmed (20), Jubel Ahmed (45), son of the deceased Abul Kalam Rubel Ahmed (22), son of Rais Uddin Chaiful Islam (30), Abdul Matin's wife Monowara Begum (36) and unknown persons.
They attacked at 2 am, vandalized houses, and looted furniture and cash. Currently, the Matin force is threatening to seize a small grocery store.
According to local sources, Abdul Matin and his gang attacked the Nirhi family twice in the past over land issues. When the helpless family complained against them at the Bangladesh Army's Jaintapur camp, they got angry and attacked the sleeping family in the dark of night. Currently, the Nirhi family has a small grocery shop and the land grabbers are threatening to seize it.
Locals said that after hearing the screams of the attack on the sleeping family, they rushed forward and rescued the injured from the attackers and brought them to the Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex. Seeing their critical condition, the doctor on duty provided them with primary treatment and sent them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment that night. The injured are currently undergoing treatment in Sylhet.
Jaintapur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Bashar Mohammad Badruzzaman said a case has been filed in connection with the attack late on February 21. The main accused in the case, Matin, was arrested around 3 pm on Saturday (February 22). The operation to arrest the remaining accused is ongoing.
