Facebook's parent company Meta's artificial intelligence program is called Llama AI. Llama AI is being accused of violating copyright law. It is said that during the training of Llama AI, 82 terabytes of books are being used without permission and piracy is being accused. For this, a case is being prepared against Meta.
Meta is accused of using pirated books from various online libraries to train its AI model. Meta has downloaded about 81.7 terabytes of data through torrents, according to case documents. Meta is said to have concealed its involvement to avoid copyright laws.
Meta is facing a class action lawsuit for illegally using pirated books to train its AI models, a report has revealed. Meta is accused of downloading and using data from online libraries such as Anna's Archive, Z-Library, and LibGen via torrents.
Several internal messages from Meta employees have been leaked regarding this. Meta employees have expressed concerns about using pirated data. A senior AI researcher at Meta reportedly warned about ethics in October 2022. According to the employee, "I don't think we should use pirated content." Another employee then said that platforms like Saihab and Libgen are essentially repositories of pirated content.
Despite these concerns, Meta began work in January 2023. Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself reportedly talked about it in a meeting and asked to start work.
