Utfal Barua, Sylhet
A meeting to exchange views on recent law and order issues was held on Saturday, February 8, at the Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) headquarters conference room under the chairmanship of SMP Police Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim, PPM Services.
Sylhet Range DIG Md. Mushfequr Rahman, Colonel GS DGFI Sylhet, Bangladesh Army 34th Brigade Major Mehedi Hasan, leaders of various political parties, student coordinators, business leaders, journalist leaders, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian Unity Council leaders and representatives of various government departments participated.
Political party leaders and student coordinators demanded the arrest of the accused in the attack and murder cases during the anti-discrimination student movement, the speedy completion of the investigation into the cases, and the arrest of those displaying illegal weapons in July and August and the recovery of illegal weapons. They called for taking action against the anti-national conspiracies and activities of the fallen dictatorship. They also called for playing an effective role in preventing theft and robbery and freeing sidewalks from encroachment.
Leaders and coordinators have assured Sylhet residents that no businesses or homes in the city will be vandalized or set on fire, nor will any innocent people be harassed.
The Police Commissioner said, "Whoever the real culprit is, he will not be given any kind of concession. Under the current interim government, the police are performing their duties completely impartially. Due to everyone's unity and cooperation, no major untoward incident has taken place in Sylhet."
He further said, "We should not listen to rumors. Especially, misleading information is spread through the use of artificial intelligence on social media, from which everyone should be careful. Every citizen should behave responsibly. The political leaders here are far-sighted, which plays an important role in maintaining peace in the society."
He further mentioned, "This country is ours, and our responsibility is to build a beautiful and prosperous Bangladesh for future generations. Law enforcement, political leaders, and the general public all want to create a beautiful and safe environment."
