Saghata, Fulchhari Correspondent:
The general patients of the Saghata Upazila Health Complex in Gaibandha are suffering due to the shortage of doctors. Poor patients from far and wide including the char areas are suffering when they come to seek medical services. Although the number of beds has increased from 31 to 50, the medical services have not increased. Although the health complex has 14 medical officer posts, there are 5 MBBS and 2 consultants. As a result, medical services for the general public are being disrupted.
Saghata Upazila Health Complex is the main source of health services for about 3 lakh people in 10 unions of the upazila. But due to lack of necessary doctors, manpower, equipment and infrastructure, the people are being deprived of the desired treatment. Due to lack of technicians, new X-ray machines are in a state of being wrapped in packets. Due to shortage of doctors, no operations are being performed in the hospital. The people are having to rush to private clinics and hospitals in the city.
If something big happens, one has to go to Rangpur Medical College or Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Several patients and relatives who came to the upazila hospitals for medical services said that the common people are facing problems due to various reasons including the lack of doctors, lack of necessary tests and examinations. There is an additional cost of getting treatment in private. Which is not possible for many.
