The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) has arrested actress Meher Afroz Shaon on charges of conspiracy against the state.
He was arrested from the capital's Dhanmondi area on Thursday (February 6).
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (DB) Rezaul Karim Mallick confirmed this information.
He said that he was taken to the DB office after being arrested from the capital's Dhanmondi area on charges of state conspiracy. He will be questioned about the state conspiracy in DB custody.
Earlier, students set fire to the village house of Humayun Ahmed's wife and TV actress Meher Afroz Shaon.
The incident took place at Shaon's father's house near Narundi Railway Station in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila around 5 pm on Thursday (February 6).
Narundi Police Investigation Center Officer-in-Charge Obaidul Haque confirmed the matter to Kalbela. He said that a group of students set fire to the house of actress Shaon's father Mohammad Ali in the afternoon. He also said that the extent of the damage cannot be said right now.
Locals said that a group of students set fire to the village house of former Awami League leader Mohammad Ali and former MP Tahura Ali. Actress Shaon is the elder of the two children of Mohammad Ali and Tahura Ali.
It is worth noting that Shaon's father, Engineer Mohammad Ali, was an Awami League candidate from Jamalpur-5 (Sadar) constituency in the 12th National Parliament election. On the other hand, Tahura Ali was a member of parliament for the reserved women's seat during the 1996-2001 and 2009-2024 terms. Meher Afroz was an Awami League candidate for the reserved women's seat in Shaon.
