Bangladesh Bank has increased the charge for withdrawing cash from ATM booths of other banks. From now on, if a customer (ATM cardholder) makes more than five transactions per month using an ATM booth of another bank, he will have to pay a maximum of 30 taka including VAT. However, for the first 5 transactions, this charge will be 15 taka. Until now, the customer had to pay a maximum of 15 taka including VAT for each transaction. This rate will be effective from February 20.
A circular in this regard was issued by the Payment Systems Department of Bangladesh Bank on Thursday.
The circular states that from February 20, if a customer wants to get a summary statement or status of his bank account, he will have to pay an additional 5 taka including VAT. For a mini statement, he will have to pay 5 taka and for a fund transfer, the customer will have to pay 10 taka. This charge will be paid by the card issuing bank or institution to the acquiring bank or institution. In the case of cash withdrawal, the issuing bank or institution can collect a maximum of 15 taka from the customer for the first 5 transactions per month (20 thousand taka per transaction or the amount withdrawn according to the customer's demand). For subsequent transactions, the issuing bank or institution can collect the full charge from the customer. And the card issuing bank will have to pay 30 taka to the bank that installed the ATM booth for each transaction.
In the case of cash withdrawals using POS within the country, the issuing bank will pay a service charge of a maximum of Tk 20 per transaction to the acquiring institution. The issuing bank will be able to collect this charge from the customer, the notification states.
Under NPSB, if a customer of one bank transfers funds to another bank using the Internet Banking Fund Transfer system, the maximum service charge per transaction will be Tk 10. The originating bank will be able to collect this charge from its customer.
The circular also specifies various fees and charges for government services. The circular states that banks can charge a maximum of Tk 20 for payments up to Tk 25,000 using cards and internet banking and a maximum of Tk 50 for payments above that amount. In addition, for transactions using MFS/PSP wallets, a maximum of 1 percent of the transaction or a maximum of Tk 30 (including VAT), whichever is lower, can be collected from the customer.
