Phulbari police have arrested three Awami League leaders on suspicion of involvement in the cocktail explosion at a BNP procession in Phulbari on February 4.
On February 5, the Phulbari Police Station conducted raids in different areas of the upazila and arrested three Awami League leaders. The arrested Awami League leaders are Khaja Moinuddin, the younger brother of the late Mostafizur Rahman Fizar, the president of the Phulbari Upazila Awami Jubo League and former minister, the other two are Nazrul Islam, the leader of the Phulbari Municipality Awami League and former municipal councilor, and Russell, the former Phulbari Upazila Chhatra League leader.
On Tuesday evening, February 4, someone threw a cocktail at a BNP procession, which exploded, injuring Upazila BNP General Secretary Mostaq Ahmed Chowdhury Khokon and Municipal BNP General Secretary Shahadat Ali Shahajul, along with two other BNP leaders. BNP leaders blamed the Awami League for the cocktail explosion. Since then, the Phulbari Police Station has started a drive. They are being arrested on suspicion of the cocktail explosion, and the drive will continue, said Phulbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge AKM Khandaker Mohibbul.
