Police have arrested six leaders of the Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League in Ranishankail, Thakurgaon. They were arrested in two police pickup vans during raids in different areas of the upazila from midnight on Tuesday (February 4) to noon on Wednesday.
The arrested are: Ranishankail Municipal Volunteer League Secretary Arthan Ali, (40), former municipal councilor Maidul Haque (44), municipal Jubo League member Erin Javed Joy, (24), Chhatra League supporter Abdul Kader Asaduzzaman Asad (29) of Bhabanipur (Dehani) of Nekmrod Union, Bhandara (Daspara) Elkar Md. Mehedi Hasan Munna (19), son of Kamruzzaman of Mukta Para area of Ranishankail Municipality

Locals complained that when we asked them the reason for their detention, the police lathi-charged the people present there. Locals also said that Jatiya Pati leader Abdul Kuddush, hotelier Mintu Mia, Sumon and others were injured during this.
Earlier, under the central directives of the Awami League, some AL leaders and activists had been carrying out leaflet distribution programs in some areas of Ranishankail Upazila for the past 2 days.
At the same time, a video related to this was uploaded to the verified Facebook page of 'Bangladesh Awami League' and the video went viral within a moment. It created a huge discussion across the upazila. Later, the police conducted a raid and arrested five people.
In this regard, Arshedul Haque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ranishankail Police Station, said,
Five people were arrested in a raid conducted overnight in various parts of the upazila on charges of distributing leaflets inciting the movement. Legal action will be taken against them. After their arrest, they were sent to court on Wednesday afternoon. Such raids will continue.
Regarding the reason for the lathicharge and beating of the locals, the OC said, "When the locals tried to rob the detained accused, we stopped them, and only a minor argument ensued."
