At a meeting with beneficiaries of Baikka Beel Fish Sanctuary in Srimangal, Moulvibazar, Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar said, "Hunting birds in the haor is a cruel and inhumane act. It is not only harmful to nature but also to the country. Everyone should refrain from such activities."
Speaking as the chief guest at the meeting held on Sunday (February 9) afternoon, he also said, "Proper enforcement of existing laws against bird hunting is essential. However, it is not enough to just enforce the law, it is also very important to raise public awareness."
Regarding the recent law and order situation in the country, Farida Akhtar said, "The united movement of the youth has brought many changes in the country. However, there are still some challenges. Some people who were in power in the past are trying to become active, which is creating various complex situations. However, the law and order forces are active and we want to ensure a stable environment."
He praised the youth and said, "The youth have brought great success to the country. Many have been injured while protesting for their demands, and thousands of youth are still undergoing treatment in hospitals. It is not enough to just pay tribute, we should always remember them and take effective steps for their welfare."
He also said that the Ministry of Youth, Ministry of Social Welfare, and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock can work jointly to implement various development plans with the youth.
The meeting was presided over by Moulvibazar Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mossa. Shahina Akhtar. Also present were; Director General of the Fisheries Department Dr. Abdur Rouf, Additional Director General Zia Haider Chowdhury, Senior Assistant Director Md. Anwar Kabir, District Fisheries Officer Dr. Md. Arif Hossain and Srimangal Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Islam Uddin.
Before the meeting, Farida Akhtar visited various parts of Baikka Beel and planted fruit trees there.
