The internal election of BNP's Ward No. 9 in Raipur Municipality, Lakshmipur has been completed in a festive atmosphere. Voting was held at Keroa Sirazia Government Primary School from 2 pm to 4 pm on Wednesday (February 19). The spontaneous presence of BNP leaders and activists and affiliated organizations was observed.
District BNP member and election coordinator Advocate Harunur Rashid, Upazila BNP member secretary Shafiqur Rahman Bhuiyan, Municipal BNP convener ABM Jilani, member secretary Shafiqul Alam Almas, Senior Joint Convener Abdul Zaher Miyaji, Bhuiyan Kamal Raihan, Nazrul Islam Liton (VP Liton), Joint Conveners Iqbal Hossain Patwari, Anisul Haque, Mukul Patwari, Upazila Krishak Dal convener Kausar Mollah, youth leader Nur Helal Mamun, and leaders of BNP and its affiliates were present during the election observation.
Election results:
For the post of president, Md. Asif received 46 votes, while Firoz Alam won with 138 votes.
Md. Kamal Hossain was elected as the general secretary with 106 votes, while his opponent received 79 votes.
For the post of Organizing Secretary, Md. Manud received 7 votes, Md. Harunur Rashid 27 votes, Md. Mokhtar Hossain 46 votes, but Md. Shafiq was elected Organizing Secretary with 107 votes.
Leaders' response:
While announcing the election results, Municipal BNP convener ABM Jilani said, "We conducted the election on the principle of 'I will give my vote, I will give it to whoever I want.' This is our party's internal vote, where there should be no division. Those who have won will work in the interest of the party, and those who have lost will also work for the party in unity."
He further said, "Through this election, we have created an example of democratic practice. The people will one day get their voting rights back. We will forget all differences and work together for the party, for the grain of rice, and to strengthen the hands of the leaders Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman."
The post-election period was marked by excitement among the leaders and activists. They expressed their confidence and support for the new leadership and pledged to work together.
