BNP-backed candidates have won all 15 posts, including the president and general secretary, in the Manikganj District Bar Association elections.
The election was held at the District Bar Association building on Thursday, February 27. The results were announced around 2 am after the vote counting.
Nationalist Lawyers Forum nominee Moksedur Rahman won the post of president and Azad Hossain Khan won the post of general secretary. Candidates from the Jamaat-backed panel contested all the posts in the election.
Moksedur Rahman won the post of president with 279 votes. His nearest rival, independent candidate Abul Kashem, got 137 votes. And Anwar Hossain, the candidate of the Jamaat-backed Lawyers' Unity Council, got 113 votes.
Azad Hossain Khan won the general secretary post with 186 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat-backed candidate Jahangir Alam, got 183 votes, while independent candidate Matiur Rahman got 111 votes and Shamsul Alam got 40 votes.
Abdul Jabbar Ali won the post of Vice President and Shahnaz Parveen won the post of Associate General Secretary.
Besides, Faruk Mollah won the post of Finance Secretary, Anwar Hossain won the post of Library Secretary, Arif Hossain won the post of Sports Secretary, Zahirul Islam won the post of Literature and Cultural Secretary, and Delwar Hossain and Selim Aldin won the posts of Auditor. Their only rival candidate Papia Sultana got 228 votes. Mostafizur Rahman, Abul Basar, Nasir Uddin, Shahinur Rahman and Murad Hossain won the posts of five members of the Executive Council.
Voting began at 10 am on February 27 and continued until 4 pm.
After the counting of votes, Chief Election Commissioner and senior advocate of the district bar, AKM Kaiser, officially announced the results at around 2 am. He said that 540 out of 609 voters cast their votes in the election.
