Enthusiasm and enthusiasm were seen among the leaders and workers in the Naogaon Sadar Upazila and Municipal BNP councils. The biennial council of Naogaon Sadar Upazila and Municipal BNP after almost a decade and 14 years respectively began in front of Naogaon KD Government High School on Friday morning. Voting began at 10 am today, Friday, to elect new leadership through the votes of councilors in these two branches of the party.
Sadar Upazila BNP voting is underway at the city's PTI Government Primary School. And the city's municipal BNP voting has begun at the KD (Krishna Dhan) Government High School. After a long time, enthusiasm has been seen among the party's local leaders and workers surrounding the council. Earlier, for a few days, party candidates have been campaigning in cities and villages using microphones. People involved in the election management said that the election, which started at 10 am, will continue till 3 pm.
Votes are being taken on ballot papers by selecting symbols against each candidate. The names of the winning candidates will be announced after the vote counting. According to party sources, the last council of Naogaon Sadar Upazila BNP was held in 2012. At that time, a 71-member full-fledged committee was formed with the current convener of Naogaon District BNP, Abu Bakkar Siddique, as the president and ASM Al Kafi Tuhin as the general secretary. Although a new committee was supposed to be formed through the council two years later, it did not happen for a while. However, in the meantime, the convening committee of Upazila BNP was formed in 2017 and 2022 to conduct organizational activities.
This time, two candidates are contesting for the post of president in the Sadar Upazila BNP council. They are Dewan Mostaq Ahmed and Sarwar Kamal Chanchal. The four candidates contesting for the post of general secretary are Abdus Salam, Nadim Quddus, Sardar Saiful Islam and S. M. A. Al Kafi Tuhin. The four candidates contesting for the post of organizing secretary are Khaled Hasan, Rafiqul Islam, Ariful Haque Rana and Obaidur Rahman. 852 councilors will vote in the council. Presidential candidate Dewan Mostaq Ahmed said, 'There is a lot of enthusiasm and enthusiasm among the leaders and workers regarding the election. I am hopeful that the councilors will vote for me.'
Another presidential candidate, Sarwar Kamal, said, "This election is proof that BNP is a democratic party. Leaders and workers are getting the opportunity to elect their leaders through direct voting. I am optimistic about winning." On the other hand, the last council of Naogaon Municipal BNP was held in 2010. At that time, a 101-member committee was formed with Nasir Uddin as president and Nurunbi Saja as general secretary. Two candidates are contesting for the post of president in the municipal BNP council. They are Nurunbi Saja and Sheikh Mizanur Rahman. The three candidates contesting for the post of general secretary are Shah Azizur Rahman Chowdhury, Abdul Matin Talukder and Didarul Haque Ratan.
The five candidates contesting for the post of Organizing Secretary are Afa Ud Daula Sabuj, Matiur Rahman, Mohsin Ali, SM Shahidul Islam and Shahiduzzaman. 639 councilors will vote in this. Regarding the council, District BNP convener Abu Bakkar Siddique said that the weakness that existed in the party for so long will be overcome through this council. Along with this, the committee formed through the direct vote of the councilors will conduct organizational activities in a strong and dynamic manner in the future.
