Faridpur Correspondent:
In Saltha, Faridpur, an allegation has been received that a farmer named Chandra Mandal of Sukuma was poisoned and onion seedlings were destroyed in his field due to non-grant of land. The allegation claims that onion seedlings of at least four bighas of land have rotted and are ruined. The incident took place recently in the field of Purura village in Bhawal union of the upazila.

In this incident, the affected farmer Shukumar Chandra Mandal filed a written complaint with Saltha police station on Saturday (February 22) afternoon. He complained, "For 10-12 years, my neighbor Md. Musha Matubbar and his son Suman Matubbar have been cultivating the land on a share basis. But this time, I took the land from them and gave it to Ufazuddin Matubbar and Pannu Molya on a share basis. Angry at this, Musha and his son Suman used a pesticide and destroyed the onion seedlings of my four bighas of land. I and the sharecroppers have suffered a lot due to this. I want a fair investigation and trial of this incident."
The accused were contacted for comment but could not be reached. However, Musha and his son Suman's family have claimed that they were not involved in the incident in any way.
Saltha Upazila Additional Agriculture Officer Sudip Biswas said, "After inspecting the affected onion fields, it has been suggested to spray water initially. However, to confirm the issue of rotting, an investigation committee needs to be formed with the scientific officer of the Spice Research Institute."
Saltha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ataur Rahman said, "We have received a complaint regarding the use of pesticide in onion fields. Legal action will be taken after investigation."
