In Samta village of Bagachra union of Sharsha upazila of Jessore, under the Strengthening Nutrition and Food Security through Agricultural Development Project,
The Rich Safe Crop Village has been implemented. Under the project, various types of vegetable seeds, various types of seedlings, fertilizers, garden nets and gratings have been distributed among the farmers.
Beneficiary farmers are meeting their family nutritional needs by utilizing uncultivated fallow and abandoned areas of their homesteads.
Farmer Sajahan Morol of Samta village said that he received various types of vegetable seeds, various types of seedlings, fertilizer, nets, and gratings from the agriculture office.
Sahida Khatun, a village headwoman of Samta village in the upazila, said that with the help of the upazila agriculture office, she has cultivated various vegetables in her homestead by making beds. After meeting the family needs, she is becoming financially self-sufficient by selling the excess vegetables.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Deepak Kumar Saha said that under the project, 78 families have been distributed 3-season vegetable seeds, chemical and organic fertilizers, garden nets, jhajri, fruits, medicinal and spice crops and seedlings among them to meet their nutritional needs and utilize uncultivated fallow land and homestead courtyards. The beneficiary farmers are fulfilling their nutritional needs by selling additional vegetables and becoming financially independent. Other farmers in the village are getting encouraged by seeing the activities of the village with nutritious and safe crops.#
