Masum Parvez, Sadullapur, Gaibandha:
In Sadullapur, a poverty-stricken upazila of Gaibandha, 11,444 people have applied for elderly, widowed and disabled allowances, but they have not yet received the desired allowance due to the allocation crisis. Despite going door to door with social service offices and public representatives for a long time, the allowance seekers are not getting the expected response.
As per the government's instructions, Sadullapur Upazila Social Service Office has started accepting applications online to ensure 100% allowance coverage. In continuation of this, 3,288 people have applied for old age allowance, 5,691 for widow and husband abuse allowance, and 2,525 for disability allowance.
The victims are disappointed by not receiving the allowance. Among the beneficiaries from different areas of the upazila are Chakina, Rajena, Mafela, Abdur Razzak and Shahana Bewa. Some of them have applied for old age or widow allowance, while others have applied for disability allowance. But they have complained that they could not come under the allowance even after waiting for a long time.
The same complaint is made by the residents of Jamalpur Union. Union Parishad Chairman Zahid Hasan Shuvo said that about 1,000 people from his union have applied for allowances. However, due to the allocation crisis, many have not received the allowances, which has created an embarrassing situation for him.
Social Service Officer's Statement Sadullapur Upazila Social Service Officer Manik Chandra Roy said that 39,500 people are already receiving allowances. Although 11,444 more people have applied, it is not possible to provide them with allowances due to insufficient allocation. However, the matter has been brought to the attention of the concerned department and the higher authorities have been informed to increase the allocation.
Thousands of people waiting to receive allowances: Thousands of poor and helpless people of Sadullapur will benefit from the allowances if the allocation under the social security program is increased. The victims are seeking the government's attention to ensure the allocation quickly.
