A joint operation by the Deputy Commissioner's Office and the District Environment Department in Nilphamari has collected a fine of Tk 2.5 lakh from two brick kilns. The operation was conducted in Kanchanpara and Machpara areas of Gorgram in Sadar Upazila of the district on Thursday (February 6).
The two brick kilns that paid the fine are M/s T A T Bricks owned by Shahidar Rahman and M/s T A B-1 Bricks owned by Md. Shahidul Islam.
The drive was led by Munna Rani Chanda, the learned Executive Magistrate of the Deputy Commissioner's Office. The drive was led by Md. Abdullah-al-Mamun, Assistant Director of the District Office of the Department of Environment, served as the prosecutor.

During the operation, the owner of M/s T A T Bricks brick kiln was fined Tk 2 lakh for violating Section 8(1) of the Brick Manufacturing and Establishment of Kilns (Control) Act, 2013 (Amended 2019) and the owner of M/s T A B-1 Bricks brick kiln was fined Tk 50,000 for violating Section 5(1).
District Assistant Director of the Department of Environment Md. Abdullah-al-Mamun said that a mobile operation was conducted against these two brick kilns as per the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013 (amended 2019).
During this time, fires burning in the kilns of the brick kilns were extinguished with water and raw bricks were destroyed by spraying water. In addition, instructions were given not to operate brick kilns by collecting soil from agricultural land.
He further said that a team of members of the Nilphamari District Police Division and Nilphamari Sadar Civil Defense and Fire Service provided overall support in conducting the operation. Such operations against illegal brick kilns will continue on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner's Office and the Department of Environment.
It is worth noting that a similar drive was conducted in Saidpur Upazila of the district for 3 days this month. A total of 1.3 million taka in fines was collected from 15 brick kilns.
