The Border Guard Battalion Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods worth Tk 11 million, including cartons of liquor and bidis, brought from Meghalaya, India, along the Sunamganj-Sylhet border route.
On Sunday morning, the commander of the Sylhet 48-Border Guard Battalion of the BGB Sylhet Sector, Lt. Col. Md. Hafizur Rahman, and the commander of the Sunamganj 28-Border Guard Battalion, Lt. Col. AKM Zakaria Qadir, confirmed this information.
48 - The BGB captain said that on Saturday, BGB patrol teams from Banglabazar, Lafarge in Sunamganj, Pratabpur, Sangram, Sonarhat, Pantumai, Bichnakandi, Damdamia, Kalasadek, Tamabil, Sripur, Minatila, DB Haor BOP and various BOPs seized smuggled goods worth Tk 96.74 lakh.
A huge quantity of Indian (foreign) cartoons filled with saris, lehengas, winter blankets, cattle (cow-buffalo) liquor, Sheikh Nasir Uddin bidi, sugar, oranges, pomegranates, poppy seeds, Garnier cream, Betnovate cream, soap, horn fish while smuggling from Bangladesh, and several boats used for illegal stone-pulling in the border river were seized. On the same day, in a separate operation, the BGB arrested a drug dealer along with the consignment after bringing liquor across the border.
Foreign liquor worth another 1.3 million taka seized: Border Guard Battalion Bangladesh (BGB) has seized another 1.3 million taka worth of liquor.
Lt. Col. AKM Zakaria, commander of the 28th Border Guard Battalion in Sunamganj, Sylhet Sector, confirmed this information to Qadir Jugantor.
Sunamganj 28-Border Guard Battalion Commander Lt. Col. AKM Zakaria Qadir said that BGB patrol teams seized 855 bottles of Indian (foreign) liquor of various brands worth 12 lakh 82 thousand 500 taka in separate operations at Bangaon, Narayantala of Sunamganj Sadar Upazila, Dolura of Bishwambharpur Upazila, and Birendranagar BOP of Tahirpur Upazila on Saturday, smuggling multiple consignments of liquor from Meghalaya state of India.
