A young man who was in police custody in Sadarpur Upazila of Faridpur has been allegedly kidnapped. A group of 25 to 30 people snatched him from the police from the Sadarpur Upazila Health Complex on Wednesday night, January 29.
The name of the kidnapped person is Faruk Hossain alias Baku (40). He is a resident of Satarashi village in Sadar Union of Sadarpur Upazila. The police arrested him yesterday evening and brought him to the police station for questioning in connection with the case of dominating the area. Later, when he reported his illness, the police took him to the Upazila Health Complex.
According to police sources, Faruk Hossain was trying to establish dominance with some terrorists from Nurullaganj Union in the Atrashir intersection area. On receiving the information, Sub-Inspector (SI) Sheikh Russell arrested him at around 7:30 pm yesterday and brought him to the police station. Later, when he 'feigned' to be ill, SI Hadiuzzaman of the police station took Faruk to Sadarpur Upazila Health Complex along with two constables at around 8 pm. After taking him to the hospital, a group of 25 to 30 people snatched Faruk from the police, put him in a car and fled.
Maidul Hasan, the doctor in charge of the Upazila Health Complex, said that Faruk was mentally disturbed. When they tried to give him an injection to put him to sleep, he refused to take it. He said that he would seek treatment elsewhere.
When asked, SI Hadiuzzaman said that a group of 25 to 30 people snatched Faruk from the police, put him in a car and fled. Since there were only three policemen, they could not stop them.
Sadarpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Motaleb Hossain said that a drive is underway to arrest Faruk. The police station is preparing a case in this incident.
