Mirsarai police have arrested 11 members of Mirsarai police station while they were preparing for a robbery in Chittagong. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station Atiqur Rahman confirmed the matter on Monday (February 3).
Earlier, they were arrested at midnight on Sunday from a place called Shahid's Garage in the West Mirsarai area of Ward No. 5 of Mirsarai Municipality in the upazila.
The arrested are Shamsul Alam's son Ekramul Haque (27), Md. Mansur's son Md. Ismail Hossain Tuhin (23), Rabiul Hossain's son Md. Omar Faruk (24), deceased Omar Faruk's son Md. Emran Hossain (27), Abul Kalam Azad's son Jahangir Alam Azad (45), Badiul Alam's son Kalim Uddin Prakash Kalo Dhan (42), deceased Rahim Ullah's son Md. Jamil Hossain Prakash Jebal (36), deceased Aminur Rahman's son Md. Iqbal Hossain Prakash Akhter (35), Nurul Mostafa's son Ariful Islam Prakash Rimon (27), Abul Kalam's son Md. Sadiq Hossain (22), driver, and Nurul Afsar's son Khairul Islam (29). All of them live in different areas of Mirsarai Upazila.
Police said that based on a secret tip-off, the police conducted a raid and arrested them. During this, various tools including country-made weapons, iron pipes, iron cutters, wooden sticks and other items used in the robbery were recovered from them. A black Hiace car used by them was also seized.
Mirsarai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atiqur Rahman said that a police team conducted a raid and arrested them after receiving information that they were gathering on the highway for the purpose of robbery. Of the arrested, 8 people have about 23 cases of theft, robbery preparation, and banditry registered against them in various police stations across the country.
He further said that a regular case has been filed against the detainees, along with 2/3 unidentified people, and sent to the Chittagong court.
