Police have recovered the body of a young man named Mahmudul Pipas (28), who went missing two days before his wedding on January 2, from the Tulshi Ganga River in Dharaki Satighata, Joypurhat Sadar.
On Sunday (February 2) at around 12 noon, a woman went to collect leaves and found a body hanging from a tree. On receiving information, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Joypurhat 250-bed General Hospital morgue.
The deceased was identified as Mahmudul Hasan Pipas (28), son of the late Mahbubur Rahman of Rukindipur village in Akkelpur upazila of the district. He used to work in a pharmaceutical company in Joypurhat town. He currently lives in a rented house in Dhanmondi area of Joypurhat town.
Police, the deceased's family and locals said that last Friday was her wedding day. Two days before that, on January 29, at around 9 am, she left her house. After that, she did not return home. She could not be reached even after trying to contact her on her mobile phone. In this incident, the deceased's elder brother Mesbahur filed a missing person's diary with Joypurhat Sadar Police Station on January 30. On Sunday, January 2, Pipas' body was found hanging in a secluded garden on the banks of the Tulshi Ganga River in Dharaki Shatighati area of Sadar Upazila. After examining the body from the scene, the police sent it to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Shuvo Hossain, a friend of the deceased Pipas, said that his friend was preparing for his wedding. Last Friday was his wedding day. For this, he also paid the rent of the community center. Suddenly, his friend went missing two days before the wedding and his body was recovered today. This was a planned murder. He demands a fair trial.
The deceased's elder brother, Mahbubur Rahman, said that his brother was killed in a planned manner. Earlier, on January 30, I filed a general missing person's diary at Sadar Police Station. I cannot accept this death.
Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector Masud Hossain said, "A missing diary was reported to the police station on January 30. His body was recovered today and sent to Joypurhat 250-bed General Hospital for autopsy. The cause of death will be known after the autopsy. However, an investigation into the matter is underway."
