According to the case source, Babar Ali's sister-in-law Samia Akhter, a resident of Bhutdangi village under Haripur police station in Thakurgaon district, developed a good relationship with Muktarul Islam of 51pur village under Pirganj police station on his mobile phone. Due to that, Muktarul Islam called Samia on his mobile phone and went to their house on October 29, 2024. Seeing Muktarul at home, 8-10 people including Samia's father-in-law attacked him unexpectedly. At one stage of the attack, Muktarul Islam was strangled and hit on the head. Muktarul was taken to the Ranishankail Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition and the doctors there referred him to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. In this incident, Abdul Khalek, the father of the deceased Muktarul Islam of Ekannapur village in Pirganj upazila, filed a murder case against 11 people at Haripur police station. The case was quickly sent to the Thakurgaon District Judge Court. The accused got 6-week interim bail from the High Court without appearing, after which they applied for bail on Thursday (February 6).
