Ayub Ali Howlader, a farmer from Shikarpur village in Ujirpur upazila of Barisal district, had placed a stream of water in his large garden to protect his crops from birds. Several species of birds that were searching for food got trapped in the net and died.
The matter went viral in an instant when locals recorded a video on their mobile phones and uploaded it on social media, Facebook. When the matter came to the attention of the Uzirpur Upazila Administration and the Forest Department, Upazila Executive Officer Md. Ali Shuja visited the spot at 10 am on February 14 and found evidence of the truth. At that time, farmer Ayub Ali fined Hawlader Tk 10,000 in cash. At the same time, he requested everyone to stop killing wildlife for the future.
Local and political leaders, including Md. Nurul Islam Biswas, Officer-in-Charge of the Gournadi Range of the Forest Department, and Md. Humayun Kabir, Upazila Forest Officer, were present at the time.
