Jamaat-e-Islam wants elections after complete reforms. A six-member delegation led by party Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar told reporters after meeting with the Election Commission on Thursday.
The Jamaat Secretary General said, "According to the people's wishes, we want local elections first. Then the national parliamentary elections will be held."
He said, "To make elections free, fair and impartial, reforms are definitely necessary. There is no election without reforms. No election without reform."
At the meeting, 30 demands were submitted to the EC on behalf of Jamaat-e-Islam.
In response to a question from reporters asking whether the Election Commission is preparing for the elections next December, Mia Golam Parwar said, "The date is not an issue. First, complete reforms must be made, then the elections."
The meeting was led by Chief Election Commissioner M Nasir Uddin and other commissioners on behalf of the Election Commission. Hamidur Rahman Azad, Matiur Rahman Akon, Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, Advocate Kamal Uddin and Advocate Yusuf Ali were also present on behalf of the Jamaat.
