Egypt and Jordan have reaffirmed their common position on the Gaza crisis, with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordanian King Abdullah II stressing the importance of the issue.
The announcement came on Wednesday, after Jordan's king met with US President Donald Trump in Washington. The two leaders pledged to maintain their united stance on the reconstruction of the war-torn Gaza Strip and stressed the need to protect the Palestinians in their own land, a statement from the Egyptian presidency said.
A statement from Jordan's Royal Court said the two countries are united in opposing the forced displacement of Palestinians. Both sides stressed the importance of continuing mutual cooperation in their talks with Trump towards a just and lasting peace.
Egypt and Jordan have taken a strong stance against Donald Trump's plan, which proposes the resettlement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan, which both countries have rejected, Arab News reported.
Trump has threatened to cut off financial aid to Egypt and Jordan if they do not accept the Palestinians.
After meeting with Trump on Tuesday, King Abdullah said on social media that Jordan's position against the forced displacement of Palestinians remains steadfast and that this is the collective opinion of the Arab world.
Egypt has announced that it will host an Arab summit this month and present a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of Gaza that will keep Palestinians in their homeland.
It should be noted that both Egypt and Jordan are close allies of the United States and rely on foreign aid. The United States is one of their main economic partners.
