🔹 Rivers and canals:
Bangladesh is a riverine country, so small and large rivers and canals flow past the villages. On a winter morning, the misty water of the river and the sight of fishing create a unique beauty. Sometimes, the villagers build bamboo bridges along the river and travel from one side to the other.
🔹 Ponds and rural life:
Almost every village has a pond next to or in the middle of its house. This is where women wash pots and pans, wash clothes, and water the livestock. In the afternoon, young children go swimming in the pond's ghat.
🔹 Boating and fishing:
In rural Bangladesh, boats are not just a means of transportation, they are also part of the culture. Village fishermen cast their nets into the river early in the morning to catch fish, while some use bamboo cages (chai). During the rainy season, when the water level increases, the boats are seen more often.
🔹 The beautiful environment of the beel and haor:
Especially during the rainy season, the haor areas of the northeastern part of the country fill up with water. Then it seems as if the entire village is floating on water. In the distance, there is only water and water, and occasionally some high land where farmers graze their cows and buffaloes.
🔹 Bamboo bridges and dirt roads:
In most villages, bamboo bridges are built due to the lack of bridges. The sight of school-going children crossing the small village roads over bamboo bridges is truly extraordinary. During the monsoon, these roads become muddy, and people use rowboats.
🔹 Evening decoration:
In the late evening, lanterns are lit along the riverbank, fishermen return home after wrapping up their nets, and in some places, the sound of conch shells and the melody of the call to prayer can be heard. The calm, serene atmosphere creates a unique scene.
