A case has been filed in Sunamganj against five expatriates for insulting the interim government's chief adviser, Dr. Yunus. In the same case, they have been accused of publishing a satirical picture of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and insulting him.
A regular case has been filed against five expatriates in the Sunamganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on that charge. Case No. CR 109/2025 (Sunamganj Sadar).
The accused in the case are Mahfuz Ahmed Chowdhury, son of Helal Ahmed Chowdhury of Kankals village in Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet, Salma Akhter, daughter of the late Abdul Hamid of Balaganj Bazar in Balaganj upazila, Tofail Ahmed, son of the late Abdul Hamid of the same area, Imran Khan, son of Askir Khan of Agijal village in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj, and Md. Mahin Khan, son of the late Nur Muhammad Khan of Madhya Hausdi village in Sadar upazila of Madaripur district.
The case was filed in the court by Ramzan Ali, an injured member of the anti-discrimination student movement. Ramzan is a BNP supporter and a former member of the Sunamganj municipal branch of the Jubo Dal.
On Wednesday (February 12), Sunamganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Bench Assistant Md. Rubel Mia confirmed the filing of the case and said that Sunamganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Saifur Rahman has taken cognizance of the case and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PIB) Sylhet Superintendent of Police to submit an investigation report by May 12.
On Wednesday, Ramzan Ali, the plaintiff in the case, said that the accused have been distorting the images of important people of the state through social media, insulting them, and criticizing them negatively in various ways for a long time. As a conscious citizen of the country, I filed the case in the court with a request for the maximum punishment by ensuring justice for the accused in the interest of the state against these activities.
