Police have arrested a young man on charges of making indecent, objectionable and distorted pictures of an expatriate girl from Pirmahalla in Sylhet city and demanding extortion. On Monday, Sylhet Metropolitan Police arrested a young man named Mintu Debnath (35) from Srimangal in Moulvibazar, following a complaint from the girl's father.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Mohammad Saiful Islam said that a resident of West Pir Mahalla of Airport Police Station has two daughters, husband and children living in England. Recently, a girl who was abroad was edited to create obscene and ugly pictures and the pictures were sent to the girl and her family members through WhatsApp from an unknown mobile phone. At the same time, various objectionable and ugly messages were sent and money was demanded by threatening to humiliate her social and personal dignity.
Saiful Islam said that the girl's father informed the police about the matter. Then the cyber unit of SMP went into the field to identify the mobile user who sent the picture. Mintu Debnath was arrested from Srimangal with the mobile phone he used through the use of information technology. Mintu is a resident of Bishwambharpur upazila of Sunamganj. After filing a case under the Pornography Control Act in this incident, the accused was handed over to the court.
