The meeting set the prices of beef at 750 taka, mutton at 1000 taka, buffalo at 650 taka, goat/sheep at 950 taka, golden chicken at 300 to 320 taka, and broiler chicken at 170 to 180 taka.
In addition, the meeting took various decisions to protect the sanctity of the month of Ramadan, keep the prices of daily necessities stable in the market, control the law and order situation, ensure power supply, keep the siren system operating during Sehri and Iftar, and ensure water supply.
Representatives from various government and private sectors were present at the meeting, chaired by Sylhet City Corporation (CCIC) Administrator and Sylhet Divisional Commissioner (Additional Secretary) Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, and conducted by Sylhet CCIC Chief Executive Officer (Joint Secretary) Mohammad Rezai Rafin Sarkar.
It was informed in the CCIC meeting that recently, the distribution of 35,000 TCB cards has started in 42 wards of CCIC. More cards will be distributed in phases. The food grain sale program (OMS) is underway in the open market for the convenience of the public. In addition, the CCIC authorities want control over the prices of goods. Be it a supershop or an open market.
People from all walks of life want the prices of goods to be within their purchasing power.
Sylhet City Corporation seeks the cooperation of all concerned authorities to ensure these matters.
At the meeting, CCIC Administrator and Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi said, "We want to overcome as much as possible from the problems that we have faced in the society in the past. The holy month of Ramadan is a month of fasting, striving, sacrifice and restraint. Everyone should be diligent in ensuring that the sanctity and seriousness of the holy Ramadan remains intact. We will work on these issues on a priority basis, including controlling the law and order situation for the safety of the city dwellers, reducing traffic congestion, keeping the city clean, regularly monitoring the market to control commodity prices, keeping roads and sidewalks suitable for movement, and ensuring uninterrupted power and water supply, especially during Sehri, Iftar and Tarawih. Sylhet City Corporation, District Administration, Police, RAB and other law enforcement agencies, Islamic Foundation, Consumer Rights, Safe Food Authority, and all departments will work together."
Requesting the traders, he said, "Take care that the prices of daily necessities are within the purchasing power of the common people." They will set up price lists in shops and markets. They will sell beef, buffalo, khasi, sheep and chicken meat at fixed prices. They will sell adulterated food. The City Corporation will regularly monitor the market and conduct mobile courts during the month of Ramadan. Considering religious and social aspects, I request hotel and restaurant traders to open and close their establishments at the right time. Sylhet is a spiritual city. Therefore, in the interest of maintaining the sanctity of the month of Ramadan, one should refrain from putting up movie posters, unnecessary miking and broadcasting objectionable advertisements.
