Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) has seized Indian cumin, sugar and phensedyl worth Tk 12.671 crore in separate raids on February 10 and 11 in the border areas of Nalitabari, Haluaghat and Dhobaura in Sherpur.
BGB patrol teams from Nalitabari Ramchandrakura in Sherpur, Ailatoli, Bandarkata in Haluaghat, and Ghoshgaon BOP in Dhobaura under the jurisdiction of Mymensingh Battalion (39 BGB) have seized a large quantity of these Indian cumin seeds, sugar, and phensedyl.
On Tuesday, February 11, late at night, BGB BOP Ailatoli, led by a captain, seized a caravan van filled with 3,840 kg of Indian cumin seeds from the Rangrapara border area, 2 bicycles, 180 kg of sugar from Beltoli in Bandarkata on February 10, 90 kg of sugar from Ghoshgaon Chandrakona and 22 bottles of Phensedyl from Panihata in Ramchandrakura. Smugglers were trying to smuggle these Indian cumin seeds, sugar and Phensedyl in innovative ways.
At this time, BGB patrol teams of these four BOPs conducted separate operations and were able to seize these cumin seeds, sugar, and phensedyl. The value of these seized Indian goods is 1 crore 26 lakh 71 thousand 3 hundred taka. The smugglers fled during the operation.
Mymensingh Battalion 39 BGB Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Sanbir Hasan Majumder confirmed the matter through a press release. Mymensingh 39 BGB members have been on duty 24 hours a day to protect the international border and prevent any illegal activities along the border.
