Police have arrested three Awami League leaders in Raipur, Laxmipur, in a special operation conducted on Monday (February 10) night from their respective homes.
The arrested are: Taslim Uddin (65), former vice-president of Keroa Union Awami League, son of late Habib Ullah of North Purba Keroa village. Saiful Islam Rajim (37), joint convener of Upazila Sramik League. He is the son of Abdul Matin of Denayatpur area of the municipality. Omar Faruk (38), organizing secretary of Ward No. 6 of the municipality, Awami League. He is the son of late Bashir Ullah Patwari of Kanchanpur area of the municipality.
According to police sources, they were arrested in a raid based on a tip-off. However, no details were given about the exact reason for their arrest.
In this regard, the police said that there is intelligence information that the arrested people were involved in the attacks, vandalism and looting of students on August 4 and 5. Legal action will be taken against them. On the other hand, local Awami League leaders and activists have expressed mixed reactions to the incident.
