SI Md. Shahidul Alam, working at Nalchiti Police Station in Jhalakathi, has been serving as a skilled, smart and honest police officer for a long time. Due to his honesty, dedication and professionalism, he has been selected as the best SI of Jhalakathi district several times. But recently he has been the victim of a purposeful propaganda, which has not only tarnished his personal honor but has also damaged the image of the police force.
A case is pending in the Cyber Tribunal against Khan Mainuddin, an alleged journalist from Jurkati area of Dapadpia union in Nalchiti upazila. Mainuddin was angry that SI Shahidul Alam did not drop his name while maintaining impartiality in the investigation of the case. Also, Mainuddin made an unethical demand to report on his behalf in an extortion case filed in the court, which SI Shahidul Islam refused in accordance with the law.
After these incidents, Khan Mainuddin, enraged, filed a false, fabricated and baseless complaint against SI Shahidul Alam at the Barisal Range Office on 9 February 2025. He also tried to tarnish the reputation of SI Shahidul Alam by spreading misleading news in various electronic and print media.
The residents of Nalchiti Upazila strongly condemn this deliberate propaganda and see it as a conspiracy. They believe that harassing an honest police officer with slander for personal gain is not only immoral but also a conspiracy to weaken the public's trust in the country's law enforcement agencies.
Local people and civil society have demanded that immediate legal action be taken against journalist Khan Mainuddin, who is alleged to have spread false propaganda against SI Shahidul Alam. They demand that the source of the false allegations be investigated and the culprits brought to justice so that no honest and sincere officer falls victim to such a conspiracy in the future.
"If a police officer is subjected to propaganda for personal gain while performing his duties in accordance with the law, it is a threat to the entire administrative system. The administration should take immediate action against this propaganda and take effective steps to restore the honor of SI Shahidul Alam."
The path to truth is never easy, but an honest and efficient officer never bows down to injustice. It is the common people's expectation that justice will be ensured in the case of SI Shahidul Alam as well.
