Sylhet Correspondent:
The tea garden authorities have started the pruning process to bring back the beauty of the green ceremony in the tea gardens of Sylhet. Like every year, this year, pruning activities have been started in all the tea gardens of Lakkatura, Airport, Moulvibazar's Srimangal, Habiganj in Sylhet. The process of pruning tea trees to keep the trees long-lasting and fresh is called pruning. The pruning process has started in all the tea gardens across Sylhet-Molvibazar Habiganj districts this season. In various tea gardens including Kamalganj Upazila in Moulvibazar, tea workers are busy pruning to increase the production of young leaves in tea trees and keep the trees healthy. At the end of the year, the leaf production capacity of the tea trees in each garden naturally decreases. Therefore, pruning has started in all the gardens of Moulvibazar including Sylhet to keep the tea production normal at the beginning of the new year.
Although the tea production process is in operation for about 9 months from the beginning of March every year, it stops in December. At this time, pruning work is carried out in the gardens throughout January and February to increase tea production capacity.
Then the roots of the tree are cleaned of weeds and fertilizer is applied. Later, during the rainy season, the tree gets refreshed by receiving rainwater and becomes full of young leaves. According to the rules, the selection of new leaves will begin in March or April.
