Six Awami League leaders, including two union council chairmen, have been arrested from different police stations in Sunamganj district in the "Operation Devil Hunt" drive.
The arrested are Awami League leader Saktar Mia, a resident of Kandigaon village, Chairman of Shalla Union Parishad in Shalla Upazila of Sunamganj, Awami League leader Bishjit Chowdhury Nantu, a resident of Dumra village, Chairman of Bahra Union Parishad in the same upazila, Jalil Mia (ward Awami League president) of Matikata village in Tahirpur upazila, Kawsar Ahmed, a resident of Dauj village in Dirai upazila, former organizing secretary of the Dirai Government College branch of the banned organization Chhatra League, Jamal Ahmed, a resident of Seotapara village, joint convener of the Chhatra League's Chhatak upazila branch, and Shafiqul Islam, a resident of Barkatnagar village, a member of the convening committee of Doarabazar Upazila Awami League.
On Monday, the officer-in-charge of the district police's media cell said that the six people were arrested in the last 24 hours, Sunday night, as part of a special operation "Operation Devil Hunt" aimed at arresting anti-national gangs, terrorists and miscreants by joint forces of various police stations in Sunamganj district.
