The Department of Environment, Sylhet Divisional Office has taken action against anti-environmental activities in various areas of Moulvibazar. A total of 1.134 lakh taka compensation has been imposed against four individuals and a farm for cutting dunes and illegally operating a chicken farm.
According to the Department of Environment, Sylhet Divisional Office on Monday (February 10), the decision to impose the fine was taken after a hearing by the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of the Department of Environment on February 5.
Janata Poultry Farm, Barshijora Eco Park, Moulvibazar - fined 9 lakh 94 thousand taka for operating a farm without an environmental clearance.
Four people fined for cutting down dunes:
1) Abdur Rahim (Kalenga, Kamalganj) - 87,600 taka.
2) Ms. Tahmina Akhter (Doritajpur, Kulaura) - 26,400 taka.
3) Mohan Goswami (Kalachara, pair) - 18,000 taka.
4) Dhanpati Rudra Pal (Kalachara, Juri) - 18,000 taka.
In a hearing of the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of the Department of Environment, the Department of Environment said, "Deforestation, sand cutting and illegal farming are serious threats to the environment. Strict action will be taken in the future to control these illegal activities."
Environmentalists say, "Illegal construction, hill cutting, and unplanned farm operations are threats to biodiversity. The Department of Environment has called on everyone to be aware of conducting business activities in accordance with the correct rules and preserving the environment."
